Who am I?

I’m Jennifer Walper, a dedicated sport and performance psychology consultant focused on empowering individuals to reach their highest potential. With my unique expertise, I will collaborate with you to align your goals and visions, creating effective strategies tailored to help you achieve your performance dreams. Theoretical Orientation

Theoretical orientation to performance excellence (TOPE) provides a personal, structured, conceptual framework to draw from to help clients achieve their ultimate performance by creating a strong therapeutic alliance, assessing, understanding and establishing the most effective strategies/interventions to support their clients. This framework was formed by my  worldview, personal and professional experience . 

 

I draw from over 30 years of diverse clinical experience in the field of mental health, addiction, rehabilitation, post secondary education, leadership and recent completion of a master's degree in sport and performance psychology.  My theoretical orientation is based on an integrative approach drawing on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Self-Determination Theory (SDT).  CBT – involves identifying and modifying negative thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that can hinder performance and contribute to being stuck in time of adversity. This theory helps to inform interventions that support cognitive restructuring. SDT – emphasizes autonomy, competence, and relatedness and motivation.  This theory is foundational to facilitate client-centered, client-lead, intrinsic motivation to promote individual empowerment and performance.

Foundational performance strategies such as mental skills, athletic identity, motivation, setting goals and physical and performance routines (e.g., self-talk, visualization/imagery, mental toughness) will be tailored to meet each person's needs.  Integrating these and other approaches fosters self-determination, cognitive restructuring, personal agency and empowerment to support my clients in achieving their own personal greatness.

These strategies are based on thorough evidence based assessment, incorporating best-practice interventions unique to the individual’s stage of development, cultural, personal goals, dreams, skills, and environmental/sport context.​​​​
